May Events in Eugene

Thurs. morning the 25th, we went to Eugene for Addison’s musical, “Fiddler on the Roof.” He played the part of the tailor. We stayed in Eugene until Saturday afternoon to be with their boys while Seth was in San Diego for meetings, and Tiffany flew to Seattle to participate with her sister in the Northwest FolkLife Festival. They were the final performance doing a Reader’s Theater type performance with singing. They were a hit! Crismon enjoyed going on a hike Saturday morning with the boys to Spencer’s Butte. We had lots of fun being together, and I think Dad and I beat the boys in Acquire, my first time!

Austin's Graduation & Pullman

We drove to Moscow Idaho for Austin's graduation with his Masters in Mechanical Engineering on May 12th, Friday. We had dinner with the Doutre's on Friday night in Pullman and then the Graduation Ceremony was on Saturday morning. It was so thrilling to be there for this special event. We are so proud of Austin for his excellent achievement. Before leaving Moscow we stopped at the hospital where I was born way back in April 4, 1952.

It was fun for me to visit Pullman before heading home. I loved going by the home I grew up on on 721 Monroe Street. We went to the back of the house and it seemed so small from what I remembered in the alley way. The Clark's house that was next door is so nice. I have many fond memories growing up there and us playing the the neighborhood kids in the Clark's backyard, next to our home. The street was so narrow. Everything looks so different as an adult. Stadium Way was a prominent street I remember growing up.

Emily & Bronson visit Hawaii

The first week in May Emily & Bronson visited the William's family in Hawaii. Thanks to the tax return they were able to make this trip. I'm so glad they got to go over there while Meredith's family was there to host them. They had a terrific time that week with these cute kids.

Asher's Baptism

Asher was baptized today by his father, Seth, in Eugene. We love living close to them so we could attend this special time together. He shared his baptism day with other children in their stake, so we took turns using the baptismal font. The Vance's, Caudle's, Grandma & Grandpa Gee, Janice's sister Carla & Bob Nichols, Corwin & Lynette, and cousin Joseph's wife, Leslie, and children were all able to be there, too. He received a beautiful blessing from his Dad, as well, as he was confirmed. A few thoughts I remembered, "Aways remember in your heart this day. Look to Priesthood holders ahead of you, your uncles and grandfathers as examples. Always look to serve." We gave Asher his scripture case. He is a fine young man and it was so special to see him baptized into the true Church and Kingdom of God on earth. He now has started on his covenant path. Tiffany prepared a lovely buffet of snacks and treats for an Open House they had afterwards for family & friends.

Praying for Family on their Special Day

Perhaps our children will remember that on their birthday they would get the special plate for dinner that night, or on some big occasion to celebrate they might earn the special plate. Well, they are out of the house, but wanting to remember them on their special day continues.

I try to pray for each of our children (which includes in-laws, of course), and grandchildren every day. In my mind I will say their name and see their face. Knowing some of the challenges they are experiencing, I will pray for that, too. I found that it was hard to effectively pray for each one and their needs all in one prayer.

I decided to give each family a day of the week that I would focus on them particularly in my thoughts and prayers, still continuing to pray for each of the other family members.

Ondalynn & Gary's family starts the week out on Monday. Next, Seth & Tiffany's family, Tuesday. Alice-Anne & Gary's family is on Wednesday, our temple day. Vivienne & Brett's family lands on Thursday. Dallin & Janelle's family on (thank-goodness for) Friday. Meredith & Bryan's family is Saturday. This is where I had to double up to fit them all in. Crismon & Danielle are Saturday, too. Julia & Austin, and Emily & Bronson wrap up the week on Sunday.

To help me keep my thoughts on each family, I put their family picture on the kitchen table on their special day. I feel closer to each one knowing that I can focus more on them during their special day.

My heart is full knowing I'm surrounded by so many who honor me by calling me mother or grandmother. I want the best for each one. Heaven is near, and I know there is great power in calling on the powers of heaven to bless and watch over each one. I love them all so dearly.

The long note pad on the side is our prayer list for friends, and other family members. Obviously, we don't say each name every time, but it is a daily reminder of those who need our special prayers. My love for my Heavenly Father has grown as I try to remember His children in my daily prayers.

Easter with Family in Eugene

Easter was spent in Eugene with Seth & Tiffany’s family and Ondalynn & Gary’s family. The cousins had so much fun together that weekend with an Easter Egg Hunt, and other activities on Sat. The highlight was attending the “Lamb of God” oratorio put on by a regional choir of LDS members. We heard it on Friday evening, and then Crismon and I went back on Saturday evening with the Vance's to hear it again as it was so tremendous! Tiffany had the solo part of mother Mary. It was a very moving, and beautiful performance. Returning home Sunday evening we had a delightful visit with Corwin & Lynette in their home about their mission call and catching up on their lives.

We also celebrated my birthday and Seth's birthday on the 19th. Carrot cake is the best! It was great to have it again!
