We are excited about General Conference coming up next weekend. This is a busy time for Crismon as our Stake Conference is the coming up the following weekend after conference.
We have had some incredibly beautiful fall days. Nothing is prettier than the NW in the fall on a bright, sunny day, with the leaves turning bright red, orange and yellow. It’s spectacular. Our schedules are pretty much the same, attending the temple weekly, trying to reach out to neighbors and ministering opportunities in the ward.
We had Leslie Jenkins, a sister in the ward who is just coming back to church come for lunch along with the sister missionaries as the missionaries can only have dinner appointments with members on the weekend. Then the next day, we had Ken & Bonnie Jean (BJ) Lansford’s come for lunch, too. They are less active and live just down our hill. We’re trying to build a friendship with them.
We usually make visits with members in our stake on Monday nights (anywhere from Estacada to Gresham), so our FHE is Sunday evening. It has been a sweet experience serving with Crismon, visiting the different homes of the stake members. He has weekly interviews on Tues. & Thursday evenings.
Our stake did a food drive, taking sacks to our neighbors asking for their help for the homeless shelters in our area. There were 15 tons of food collected. Crismon has participated in a number of Church and Community service projects this month and last. He is active in the Gresham Chamber of Commerce and he has made good connections with the community as well as representing the church. Yesterday, he and 10 missionaries helped out at the Teddy Bear Parade directing traffic.
September 15 was Bronson's 26th birthday, and it was also the BYU game against the Univ. of Wisconsin in Madison. Emily & Bronson attended the game. We were not predicted to win, so it was pretty exciting that we beat them at the end. We had so much fun over that big win with Seth, Tiffany and their boys there, too, at the Vance's house. We were all there for the game and to celebrate Julia's 13th birthday. Earlier that day, Seth & Tiffany attended an Endowment session while Dad, Jackson, and Addison were able to do baptisms for the dead. It was a choice opportunity for Crismon to be baptized by his oldest grandson, Jackson.
Friday, Sept. 21 we were in Utah for my Aunt Lois Canning's Memorial Service in the next day. She was the last surviving sibling from my Mom’s family of 10 children. She was 3 weeks shy of 99 years old. It has been a long time since I've seen many of my Cook cousins, so I was especially happy to attend. Lois & Ray's children are Craig & Nancy (Williamsburg, MD), Curtis & Becky (Logan, UT), Robin & Byron (Forest Grove, OR), and Russ & Kae (SLC) were all there. They provided a lovely lunch and the Memorial for Lois was so nice. I loved being there will my siblings and Cook family. Then we all drove down to Provo to Kathi's house as she was providing a dinner for all of us. She worked so hard putting together a delicious salmon dinner with all the trimmings. She rented tables and chairs for the backyard where we ate outside. Crismon and I picked up Grandma Julia as we came in to Orem. Again, I loved spending time with my wonderful siblings.
We loved spending time with our cute Johns family while we were there. We enjoy each one of them so much, but cute Claire really steals our hearts as she is almost two-years-old and so delightful. The Johns family have great traditions in their home. It's fun to see how well organized they are, and how many good things they are doing. Tues. morning, Sept. 25th.
We love this glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ, and we love the sweetness in our marriage and in our lives.
